Church News: New Home Mission Work in Omaha, Nebraska

Heritage Reformed Church is a new mission work of the RCUS serving the greater Omaha area. Heritage is under the oversight of St. John’s Reformed Church, Lincoln, and is within the bounds of the South Central Classis of the RCUS Synod. As with all RCUS congregations, Heritage is committed to historic Reformed Christianity: Christ alone, Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone, for God’s Glory alone.

Heritage began with a few families meeting at Settle Inn in Omaha for Sunday evening Bible Studies, but it soon developed into Sunday evening worship services under the preaching of Rev. Lee Johnson, pastor of St. John’s RCUS, Lincoln. After a number of months, the St. John’s consistory and the faithful families of the new mission work began the process of searching for a pastor. In December 2012, the St. John’s consistory contacted Rev. Scott Henry and invited him to preach a trial sermon. Subsequently, Rev. Henry was called by the St. John’s congregation to serve as associate pastor of St. John’s, Lincoln, laboring as missionary pastor to this newly planted mission work in Omaha. Rev. Henry accepted this call and he began his labors on Feb. 1, 2013. Since then, the Heritage congregation has relocated to Bellevue, NE, which is a suburb just south of Omaha. The congregation meets every Sunday morning in the auditorium of Mission Middle School, Bellevue, at 9:00 am for Sunday school and 10:00 am for Worship Service.

Currently, there are six families that gather together on the Lord’s Day for worship at Heritage RCUS, but we continue to pray that the Lord of the harvest will gather up His elect people from the greater Omaha area and unite them to the congregation. We are confident that the Lord is building and will continue to build His church by His Word and Spirit, and so we confidently continue to pray, evangelize, preach, and teach His Word for the glory of Christ and the good of the congregation. May the Lord be pleased to grow us spiritually and numerically here at Heritage RCUS for the glory of His name’s sake!

If you have family or friends in the Omaha area, please send them our contact information and invite them to join with us as we gather to “Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name” and to “Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2). Look us up on the web at
